ABOUT THE MIX

Mixed Mode is a mixed a cappella ensemble hailing from the University of Central Florida founded by Max Kuchenreuther and Nate Barone in August of 2015.

In 2015, Mixed Mode entered the a cappella scene with one mission: to create music that elicits a visceral reaction within our audience. That feeling of music hitting you right where you needed it most is what Mixed Mode is all about. Over the past four years, we've been able to come together as a family of musicians who put their passion for music and artistry into every single performance we give.

In the Winter of 2017, we released our debut extended play, Mixology, into the world. This four-track extended play, carefully crafted in collaboration with the genius minds at The Vocal Company, is the celebration of the music that catapulted Mixed Mode into the a cappella spotlight in the South and the East Coast.

From there, Mixed Mode has made many appearances at festivals all over the continental United States, including prestigious appearances as ICCA 2018 South Semifinalists, The Betsy’s A Cappella Festival in Miami, FL, multiple award-winning SoJam A Cappella Festival competition appearances, placing Top 9 at the inaugural A Cappella Education Association Collegiate Invitational in 2018, performing at the Boston Sings A Cappella Festival in 2019, performing at ICCA 2022 South Quarterfinals, and winning second place at ICCA 2023 South Quarterfinals and going on to attend ICCA 2023 South Semifinals. We have been honored with many opportunities to showcase our music and artistry and we hope that our music has a positive impact on everyone who experiences it.

In the Fall of 2019, Mixed Mode released its debut, full-length studio album, Blossom. It is our hope that the music we put forth into the world moves you physically and emotionally, and that you share it with as many people as you know. We are not your garden-variety college group. We are always looking to push the boundaries of what the human voice can do.

To the future, Mixed Mode is looking to enter more competitions to showcase our artistry and passions. We want to create performances that we are proud of, ones that tell stories through artistic expression, and showcase to the world the love that Mixed Mode has for music and each other. Entering Spring 2023, Mixed Mode continues to strive to push the boundaries of acappella music in the competition setting. We are looking forward to attending BOSS 2023, and we definitely plan on continuing to compete in these amazing competitions and festivals.
